Pros

There were some great people working there, the atmosphere (for the most part, and I'll get to that in the cons section), was great. The discount card that worked at all TJX companies in Canada was nice as well.

Cons

Our head manager was not very understanding with giving time off. For example, at one point, someone had to take a day off because of a family emergency, the management would see them as unreliable and give them less shifts. The atmosphere in "the back" was that of, they wanted us to basically live there, if you used public transportation, and for some reason it was late, they would get mad at you and possibly give you a coaching, or, if you were on your probation period, just let you go entirely. Part timers were usually treated badly in regards to shifts and availability, they say that they "hire based on availability", so if you happen to have something going on later in life, there's a pretty good chance that they would just let you go rather than trying to fit you somewhere else in the store. Management is very rigid, they don't care about you or your situation, just about how it'll affect them and the store.

Pros

One challenge is that, because it's a retail environment, it can become extremely busy during peak hours or holidays. However, I see that as an opportunity to improve my ability to stay organized, prioritize tasks, and remain calm under pressure. Also, the rotating schedule can sometimes make it challenging to maintain a consistent routine. However, it has helped me become more flexible and adapt quickly to changing business needs.

Cons

One thing I really enjoy about working at HomeSense is the fast-paced environment. Every day is different, and I've had the opportunity to strengthen my customer service, communication, and multitasking skills while working with a great team.

Pros

Great community with coworkers, first dibs on merchandise, early morning shifts, warehouse is better than being on the floor

Cons

Hard work can go unnoticed, you're expected to know as many departments as possible and always be available to work on cash, having to deal with rude customers that take advantage of the return policy, 10% discount for employees is worth little to nothing
