This school doesn't appreciate the hard work and achievements of its faculty

Pros

HCC pays well and you are left to do your job. There are good students.

Cons

It is administration heavy. New administration does not consider what the experienced faculty has to say. Faculty are not well supported for work outside the college which helps elevate the school's reputation.

HCC needs help!

Pros

As a full time faculty member, having almost a solid 4 months off every year is nice. Benefit package is good. HCC has a new chancellor. He has a real mess on his hands.

Cons

Like anywhere there's good and bad. Surrounded by unqualified and/or uninspired teachers, management, staff and administration who all coast through their jobs. No one does more than they need to. They do the bare minimum. There is an overwhelming disdain between departments. No one attempts to work together. Students run the asylum. They break rules with no consequence. As a teacher, I'm fed up. This is probably going to be my last contract with HCC. There is no tenure for teaching faculty. You are handed a one year contract every May that covers the next school year. Every faculty member receives the same contract. You must sign it or you will be fired. There is no room for negotiation. Take it or leave it.
