Great place to work

Pros

Houston Methodist Hospital is a great place to work. Work schedule is flexible, can work from home, management is super nice, caring and give you freedom to work efficiently rather than micro managing, opportunity to get promoted, good benefits, free gym, discounted cafeteria on site, good work/life balance. Company has great ICARE value. I am very pleased and blessed to get this opportunity. It is one of the top places to work in state of Texas as well as in US (FORTUNE 2015 rank USA: 57)

Cons

Commute is very long but I think I have too many pros so I can take that.

Pros

Generally, this hospital is good. I have been a patient here and have received good medical care.

Cons

They have instituted the "skin" investment in the health insurance benefits. The quality of the healthcare benefits has been reduced. It seems that all they see is $. This motivates everything they do and the quality of care is diminished as a result. Many of the perks are being slowly dismantled. Bonus structures are changing, too. It is too cutthroat. Some of the other postings here mention that directors, managers, etc are selected based on their degrees rather than experience. I find it ridiculous to put someone in charge of an entire department when they have NO medical or clinical experience but they get the job because they have an MBA. CLUELESS! I am looking for another position. I am also tired of my manager telling everyone they should be thankful they have a job. Companies should be thankful they have intelligent, hardworking people.

Dead end job

Pros

- if you can lower your head, keep your mouth shut then this is a place to just collect paycheck - if you don't want a career growth and are happy where you are, then this may be the place. - if you agree with whatever your boss says, then this is the place.

Cons

- poor management and no leadership direction. No accountability from the leadership. If they can pass the bucket to you, they will. They are not in line with what they preach such as the ICARE values. No innovation is encouraged or allowed. Although, the company provides an annual training in which they encourage innovation, unparalleled service, etc. - if you work in IT, this is a dead-end job place. No real in-class training and no IT conference will be approved by the managers; however, they would be the ones going to these conferences. Unfortunately, they often brought nothing back to the team to help the team/department to improve or at least learn the best practice of what the industry are doing out there. - If you remain long in IT, you will not learn anything new. Most people kept to themselves and little collaboration existed even within the same team. This is not a culture of team collaboration and team work. Everyone is for himself and herself. - There is no career growth in IT.
