      Pros

      Positive minded and pragmatics employees. Young employees are allowed to start working on projects early in their careers. The company has employee loyalty and encourages hiring and promotion from within. Solid work/life balance with flexible hours and understanding management.

      Cons

      It is owned by EchoStar, which has repeated cut benefits including vacation time and health care benefits. Hughes' loyalty to its employees lead to a stagnant reporting structure that does not allow for rapid career advancement. Pay scale is slightly below the D.C. Metropolitan average.

      Very cool technology and opportunities to work on cutting edge systems. By the time I left there were still a few "fun" events - quarterly parties, the annual sales meeting the holiday party, etc.

      Cons

      Managers who are not properly trained. It's crunch time all the time. Hughes was a great company to work for before the takeover by EchoStar. A lot of the perks, benefits and "fun times" disappeared with EchoStar - especially for people who traveled. Waayyyy too top heavy in management.
