Pros

They are willing to hire just about anyone because the turnover is so high.

Cons

Assistant Directors (ADs) are overworked, underpaid, scared into not taking their lunch breaks and constantly under pressure to fulfill a bewildering and Orwellian series of lists. Making 100 "merchant visits"a week was particularly stressful while I was also trying to manage all appointments, schedule and hire teachers, interview prospective candidates, manage all records and filing, teach students (I have no qualifications except a week long course I took with Huntington that actually never taught me how to teach, just how to "manage the center.") and run around doing all sorts of other inane tasks. I dreaded coming into work everyday only to work till nine at night or later. I worked at Huntington for two months. I lasted longer than anyone else in my training group who I was in contact with. As far as I can tell, ADs are extremely mistreated across the North East. One of the girls I knew who'd been at a center awhile was losing her hair from stress, another had developed an autoimmune disorder. Knowing the company, I am suspicious some of these positive reviews by teachers might have been commissioned by management. I know many of the hourly teachers I spoke with were disgruntled about pay and the dated material with which they worked.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comment. We are truly sorry to hear that you have had the experience that you account in the above review. Unfortunately, we are unable to distinguish if you have had this experience in a franchise center or a corporate center. Either way, as a corporate representative, I encourage you strongly to bring your concerns up to your center's manager or franchisee. Thank you again for the information. Shady, deceptive, and corrupt at best.

Pros

You can help kids do better in school.

Cons

Just about everything. The Huntington’s have a way of making you think they care, but in reality are the type of people who would push an old lady out of a wheelchair to get to a penny. I have seen many people fired or pushed out just for making ethical choices, and they held many trainings on how to make families feel so bad they have no other option to help their child. The company itself has unrealistic expectations for everyone and talk about how they are he best franchise to own, and yet have extremely high turnover on the corporate side and franchise side. They have recently decided to close the corporate half of their business, but in doing so the support to franchise owners is limited as it seems like the only goal of the company right now is to offload their own centers. Any contact with them includes discussion about how great it is to buy a fully established Huntington (that they failed to manage on their side) because they’re already established. Basically, they will find every way to bleed a franchise dry and then retaliate against you for not making money. Just look up “Joe Lieberman sues Huntington Learning Center Franchise” to see one example. They will leave you so drained that you will want to just walk away, and when they do they will try to get even more from you. They’re amazing support to franchise owners are also people with very high turnover who really don’t know much, they report to a person who could care even less that you exist, who’s job is to just make sure the checks are sent to the Huntington’s on any little profit you can make.
