Pros

Get to know lots of customers by name. Upper management seems to know how to run the business because most of them have worked their way up.

Cons

This is a highly physical job. You are on your feet for the entire shift. Sometimes you feel like a cog working in a machine because the work is never done.

Pros

It will make you appreciate every non-retail job you ever have. The stores have good management and focus on the customer.

Cons

There is limited chance for advancement and only those at the store director level or above make good money. The store manager position is the one job they dangle but very few get their own store and then if they do it usually a lousy store at first.

Pros

Hy-Vee was a decent place to work. It's a good place for teenagers who need part-time jobs at a flexible place.

Cons

The usual downsides to working at a grocery store - unhappy customers and standing on your feet all day long.
