Employee morale is horrendous... would not recommend as a place to work

Pros

The people I work with are talented, hard-working and knowledgeable people. Until IBM does a mass firing and replaces them with cheaper, unexperienced, and sometimes unqualified, individuals.

Cons

IBM just took away the only positive thing they had going for it - work from home. After pushing people to work from home, they have now decided it's time to pull everyone back into the office. I am not arguing that working in the same location is a bad thing, but it's the way they implemented it. They are now forcing people to move, even if they are close to another IBM location, they are being forced to the one IBM specifies. Many of these locations are also expensive, but there is no salary bump to compensate. This company is best at figuring out what it can take away from the employee. They want the employee's loyalty, but there is NO loyalty in return. Forget about raises, they are minimal (~1%) and once in a while someone may get something larger. Look elsewhere, if this is the only job you get, take it, get some experience and get out after 2 or 3 years. The morale is horrendous and it is not an enjoyable place to work. IBM may try and cite improvements in their "Engagement Surveys", but that is only because most people don't even take the survey. There may be pockets of the company that are better than others, but sooner or later the corporate culture will bring them down too. Such a shame, IBM really was a great company to work for years and years ago.

Pros

The pro use to be you could work from home and balance your life and work, that has since gone away

Cons

If you are based in the USA, you will be a short term employee as the jobs are being sent over seas. 20 straight quarters of declining revenues. The only person that gets a bonus or pay increase is the CEO

Run the other direction!

Pros

Decent pay, fair amount of flexibility depending on your job role

Cons

I joined this company just a few years ago with high hopes that it would live up to its name and (former) reputation. I couldn't be more disappointed with my experience here as a "millennial" excited to grow a career here. The culture is terrible, the executive management is greedy and out of touch, and the constant layoffs and disregard for the employee (and customer for that matter) result in the lowest morale I have ever seen in a company. Since I started 2 years ago, almost everyone I have met has been laid off without explanation or beat them to it by leaving on their own. Do not believe the propaganda and run the other way to an employer that appreciates you and compensates you accordingly.
