Pros

good reputation, good work schedule

Cons

No help in career path/growth, it is all about the charge rate. Management seems to care just about sales performance which drives their bonuses. No interest in individuals or what they are doing and only seem to want to get involved when there are problems to "beat" people down.

Pros

If you have a good supervisor, you will have flexibility, good feedback, and support. Most people work from home, so that is a definite perk.

Cons

Senior management does support or respect their staff. The only they care about is money. They do not want to pay their employees what they are worth because it cuts into their very large, multimillion dollar bonuses. They do not value good employees. Their promotion matrix does not allow for significant advancement, in fact it makes it almost impossible to get promoted. They expect you to work 24/7, but senior management is not willing to do the same. Poor infrastructure. They do not have the systems nor people in place to handle the volume of business or number of employees they have, yet they continue to expand.

Pros

Opportunity to work with top notch experts in many fields that support the public good (e.g. social, environmental/green, health, etc.). Innovative, multidisciplinary teams draw on experts from social science, research and evaluation, training, performance, tecfhnology, strategic communications, etc. to help clients solve problems. The work is interesting!

Cons

Low pay, lack of work/life balance, managers are promoted for technical or domain knowledge but do not necessarily have people management skills. There is little emphasis on developing, mentoring, or supporting staff; they are mostly left on their own. Staff with more aggressive personalities are more likely to succeed. Also, ICF has grown faster than its IT systems and knowledge management can keep up. It has essentially outgrown its smaller company processes and systems, and is struggling with knowledge sharing, collaboration, and other organizational effectiveness challenges. Finally, there is a lack of financial incentive for high performance. Employees can excell in every area and still get a negligible raise (barely above COLA). This includes managers. Quarterly bonuses are low and go to very few staff. Only the senior staff who work on proposals can get higher bonuses. It sends the message that only business developoment is valued.
