Slow career progression

Pros

competent colleagues, interesting projects, nice office

Cons

Slow career progress in the Research team, although management speaks about how the company encourages employees' growth. In practice, it doesn't. It takes years to have contact with clients or manage projects, although in Government or other similar companies graduates get such opportunities after 1-2 years. As a result, many talented young researchers have been leaving the company after 1-3 years. Chaotic and unprofessional style of project management by most PMs whereby the only people in project teams who know what is actually happening in the project are the PM and PD. Team members typically get involved on 1-2 tasks sometimes months after projects have started and especially junior people end up, as a result, working on 3-4 sometimes even more projects at the same time. Management seem to be fine with this style of project management, though. Lack of recognition and low salary. Bonuses are rarely awarded. Unclear path to promotion and lack of support from some managers

Pros

- Typical agency perks: Free snacks, catered lunch, weekly happy hour, casual dress, summer hours - Different industries as clients for industry exposure - Fair work life balance, depending on the client/project - They’ll give you a lot of responsibility if you want to gain experience

Cons

- You’ll have to figure most things out yourself, processes are inconsistent between offices and even people in the same office - Business development tries to sell clients on projects we have no expertise in (if we win, we have to frantically hire someone or figure it out) - Organization is trying to find its niche, but we don’t often win deals - Some projects involve offshore - meaning 8 or 9am meetings - leadership team/culture has room for improvement: office politics/bureaucracy and high focus on bottom line does not result in a fun/motivating place to work (leading to turnover and lower productivity) - organization should focus on training to keep up with technology trends, best practices, etc
