Interesting Projects but Unrealistic Utilization Expectations

Pros

For many employees, there are options to work on a variety of contracts and projects, which keeps the work interesting and different. Employees help each other out, sharing ideas and knowledge. Expectations for quality work are high, and for many projects, you can see the positive outcomes of your work with the government agencies. Flexible working hours - it's nice to be able to work from home one or two days a week.

Cons

Balancing availability for project requests. Maintaining the company line of "100% utilization." Training and professional development are encouraged, but must be attended OUTSIDE of the 40+ hour work week. If you attend an all-day training session, be prepared to work an extra 8 hours to make up for the lost time in billable hours. There is no additional compensation for those extra working hours.

Pros

The company allows for telework

Cons

Collaboration is impossible across LOBs because they operate in silos. Bad planning creates very stressful conditions due to unrealistic timelines. Besides the heavy work load, Developers have to constantly search for project work. Because of bad planning most people people have to work very long hours. Very old company culture, lacks innovation. No room for creative thinking because the only thing that matters is billable client work. Too much time wasted in countless meetings Micro managing PMs Benefits are far from great.

Pros

relationship among junior staffers is great, gym is nice, good work-life balance (depending on your team), good benefits and 401(k) match, stable job.

Cons

huge disconnect between junior and senior management, mismanagement and underutilization of resources, little room for innovation and creativity, low pay, very "corporate", little concern for employee satisfaction. This company is not really concerned with retaining employees, at least that's how they come off. There is very little room for growth, both personal and professional. They are so client-driven that analytical methods have not changed over the last 15 years because of the constant push to maintain profitability. This lack of innovation, or push to truly innovate will really hurt ICF in the long run.
