Pros

They do have a very flexible work/life balance approach, cafe, and ample parking. A good company if you are early in your career.

Cons

IEEE was a very good company and people gave 150% because they felt valued, and were empowered to do their job. However, there's been a drastic change in the past 3-5 years. It's quite difficult to advance within the company even if you've received glowing reviews. There have been sweeping Management changes that have trickled down to the employee level and made most individuals miserable. Directors and upper Management have great ideas, however they aren't thought all the way through. Instead, the vague concepts are handed down to operation employees, who are then expected to deliver without knowing any background, strategy, or mission behind the ideas. Managers use to lead at IEEE, although more recently, it seems they are just passing along the flag. If the employee does not deliver, then no raise is given. Outsourcing has become a norm. "Farm it out, as much as you can, even if it comes back wrong," is a direct quote from a Manager. Senior Management staff are very careful and quite good at the political dances, in order to make a good name for themselves. It's no longer a Team atmosphere. Employees are now just a cog on the slow moving wheel. The bonus and incentive plans are sub par in comparison to other companies. Managers and Employees are hardly seen in the office, and always working from home, and non responsive. If you are early in your career then this is a good place to get your feet wet, otherwise pack up your passion and talents and just nod, do as your told, and pray daily before you get out of your car.

Pros

The people are great, It's great working for an organization that does good work. Depending on you manager hours can be flexible. Great benefits and competitive pay.

Cons

Being a non-for-profit and having to answer to a board as well as volunteers things move at a different pace and can sometimes be difficult to get things done, but I've experienced equal or worse red tape at large corporations. Also because it's a great place to work people don't leave and it can be difficult to advance
