Pros

Option to chose your own schedule. Telework is encouraged which saves you on gas. Good government benefits (health, dental, vison, etc.). No micro-managing.

Cons

Due to the slashing of the IRS budget, there aren't many opportunities for career progression. People abuse the Union by doing wrong, being held accountable, and trying to blame management for their wrongs that were corrected. This does not allow management to do their jobs adequately. IRS has a bad name and bad reputation, but you can't believe everything that you hear. I would've stayed with the service if I would've had an opportunity to reach my career goals.
