Pros

Paid leave and holidays. Great coworkers very helpful. Initial training was very intensive and informative.

Cons

Workload continues to grow promotion potential is limited. Training is all online so employees tend to multitask and not learn, too many other things that need done in a day to worry about an online CPE that you don't get anything out of.

Pros

Great people. Lots of opportunities for someone who wants to work hard and advance. In 30 years, I usually had a different position about every 5 years. This kept the job interesting, challenging, and rewarding. Great for family life. Flexible work scheduled allowed me to be involved with my kids activities like coaching, Boy Scouts, etc. Good benefits. And pay, once you reach journey level, is descent.

Cons

Working for the IRS, you can get blamed for a lot of tax policy, which of course we just enforce the law passed by Congress. And Congress will sometimes play games with pay and benefit issues. A good example was the October 2013 government shutdown.
