Pros

The ability to create a flexible schedule that allows people to work around their lives. Coworkers get along and work together to get the job done. Managers facilitate work much of the time.

Cons

Excessive focus on closing cases and treating taxpayers and employees like numbers that have to be shuffled along the audit process. Being in the public spotlight, treated poorly by Congress and the Media. Dealing with irate power of attorneys. The salary and opportunities plateau rather quickly, reducing motivation to keep striving

Pros

I got to meet some great people. I learned a lot about tax law and what goes into the making of tax law. I got some great benefits and the pay was above average.

Cons

I was threatened by a taxpayer's father. I was lied to by at least half of the people I audited. I hated to bring bad news that they owed money to good people who made honest mistakes or followed bad advice of others.
