I loved working for the IRS.

Pros

Believe it or not, I found a relaxed atmosphere and wonderful co-workers at the IRS. I felt the training provided to be very good and the benefits quite generous.

Cons

Sometimes external departments came down too heavily on employees with too little information. There was, at times, a sense that the head was not connected to the body.

Great benefits but not the most satisfying work

Pros

Fantastic work/life balance, great scheduling options and a competitive salary and benefit package. I have never heard of another company that offers leave, benefits, and 401(k) contribution matching to part-time employees.

Cons

As one would expect, the work environment is very bureaucratic. Positions below the GS-7 level are given very little freedom and responsibility and it is difficult to achieve a good overview the company processes since everything is so segmented.
