Pros

A reliable career once you are selected as perm. Good benefits as far as leave and retirement. If you are a good, hard-working employee you also receive a performance award based on your annual performance rating.

Cons

Position selections are more often based on the ability to write a narrative or who you know than actual hard work. Senior Management makes decisions that adversely affect employees and front line managers are the ones that have to relay the information. Hiring sufficient employees to complete the required workload is impossible due to budget constraints and HQ decisions.
