Pros

Corporate culture is good. Relative work/life flexibility. Potential to advance exists.

Cons

Local management doesn't track metrics or offer solid data for advancement or promotion. Top management ran off the competent project managers while I was there, expect to be your own PM. "Manager" titles are handed out based on personal preference.

Pros

People are pretty easy going. Management is pretty flexible for working hours and working around life events. Benefits are better than average.

Cons

There is no training program, so if it takes you longer to learn something than what they expect, they get frustrated with you, even if you work longer hours to get it right. The advancement opportunity is for CAD, Engineering or Detailing. The engineering will consist of anchoring ventilators or AC units to roofs. You won't be designing anything and the experience is not very valuable beyond seismic applications. The office I worked at was strangely quiet. So much so, that I was formally notified I was distracting other employees by my daily 5 minute conversations I had with another co-worker. Once you get a formal write up, don't bother trying to save your job. Working harder and longer, doing good work, maintaining a good attitude, and showing up on time will not make a difference. Once they give you a written warning "you may be let go in two weeks due to performance issues" they don't have training on, start looking for another job. They've decided they don't like you for arbitrary reasons and you're on your way out. I'm not a disgruntled employee. I wanted to stay with this company, but they felt differently.
