Pros

While working at IBC under G.Fred DiBona it was a very rewarding experience and the company experienced a lot of growth. There was a lot of room for growth, the organization had a great tuition reimbursement plan, yearly bonus, Christmas parties, and incentives for going above and beyond.

Cons

After the passing of G. Fred it seemed to all go downhill. There were multiple changes in leadership, as everyone wanted to be the leader that fulfilled the merger with Highmark. This carrot in front of the horse method seemed to only effect those at the top, but it gradually trickled down to those below. There is little to no room for advancement and one will find themselves pigeon-holed in one position if not knowing or sucking up to the right people. Hard workers are not developed for advancement. However, management is fond of bringing their friends in from the outside, or transferring from other areas because the person is in jeopardy of loosing their job. Additionally, IBC is famous for laying off whole departments, or having you train your replacement prior to your own layoff.

IBC Shuns American Workers for H-1B Visa Holders

Pros

IBC used to be a good company to work for but the culture has changed dramatically as it is more interested in giving jobs to H-1B Visa holders than it is to American workers. There is one 'pro' -- IBC has a good cafeteria with many healthy food choices.

Cons

IBC has laid off many, many full time employees and consultants (US citizens) to bring workers from India on H1B Visas whom they can pay a lot less money. IBC also transfers employees into the country who have worked for them in India under an L-1 visa. In less than 6 months, one department (alone) removed 50 workers and replaced them all with H1B Visa holders. None of these were high level positions. IBC boasts about being community oriented but the fact is IBC does not support Philadelphia area workers or any American workers -- at all. Most of these H-1B visa holders work in Information Technology (IT) and most of them come from India. There are about 500,000 IT workers in the USA holding H-1B visas. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are about 2.5 million IT workers in America. So approximately 20 percent of the domestic IT workforce isn’t domestic at all, but imported on H-1B visas. IBC systematically adds to the high rate of unemployment in the Philadelphia are and the even higher rate of under employment.

Pros

The benefit package is awesome, especially the ability to purchase up to five additonal days of vacation, and if not used by the end of the year--they can be cashed back in. It's nice to get an extra week of pay in December if you sell back your days, just as it is nice to have an extra five days if something comes up. Flexible workign hours and the ability to work from home.

Cons

Leadership changes direction too frequently; expectations are that you are available 24/7; not everyone is held accountable for their actions. Have to purchase your own office supplies.
