Pros

Interactions with co-workers and other staff members can be very supportive if there is a good mix of individuals. The innovative ideas that come from hospital staff is very uplifting.

Cons

Middle and upper management do not do very well with communicating with each other or staff which in turn trickles down to staff. There are too many cliques within the organization. Information does not get disseminated to staff timely or at all. The insurance benefits are pretty lousy given that one works within the hospital network.

Pros

Location in beautiful Bloomington, Indiana, a diverse college town with many big city amenities but with small town character and charm.

Cons

Good ol' boy management style that is too often inflexible to meeting changing needs of staff. Budget that seems to have priorities out of order regarding bedside resources, including appropriate level of staff.

Pros

Large stable company, many internal opportunities

Cons

Each year since the merger w/IU Health, it has become increasingly apparent this is a business just like any other- focused on the bottom line, not employees or patients. We are continually asked to do more (increasing patient volume and acuity, productivity, more tasks added) and with less and less (fewer employees, no increase in pay, less equipment, less time with each patient, etc.), with nothing less than perfection expected. The physicians are also expected to maintain an extremely high level of productivity with patient volume and procedures. Burnout is real. Very frustrating as an employee, when I can't give my best care because I don't have enough time or resources. Very scary as a patient- when everyone is past their max capacity, things get missed, confused, and forgotten. This is why I am not proud to work here.
