Technical departments have a much better culture and work environment from what I've seen. A lot of people who are driven to do more than just their everyday job. Flexible working hours available in development. Education budget based on a pay grade. Promotions are possible. Some relocation possibilities also.

Cons

Getting to know all the right data will be impossible without going out of your way and talking to people, actively searching for information. Not a good environment for people to just work 9am to 6pm.

Sound and growing business, open-minded atmosphere, enthusiastic people, relaxed work environment, lots of different technologies in use; some nice employee perks.

Cons

Dynamics (in terms of communication and travel) can be overwhelming for some. Some processes are late on company growth - orientation requires personal engagement.
