Layoffs is an annual event here. Sometimes it happens twice a year which leads to super low morale. Most people in IT on an H-1b visa which means everyone is overworked, no one speaks up to management for bad decisions and English is the second language spoken here. Favoritism is very apparent where people are hired because their spouses work here instead of having the right skills. If you know the right people you can advance, otherwise there is no chance for advancement. Learning new technology? Unless you are on the right team, there is no chance they will agree to it. Some managers and directors have bankers’ hours while they expect their teams to do whatever is necessary to get things done.
