Pros

Working as a Project Assistant was a great experience with the SFRD team, I learned a lot and was able to gain new skills during my time as a Project Assistant.

Cons

At times it was difficult with the structure of whom the Project Assistants reported to which in turn cause confusion for the team and for the Project Assistant on who to report to. There was no room for career growth as a Project Assistant.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re disappointed to hear that you encountered some difficulty regarding the reporting structure in your position. We understand the importance of the employee experience here at IDA, and please know this review is being shared with leadership. IDA encourages and supports all staff to pursue career-developing resources and programs. Our benefits include a number of educational assistance programs such as the IDA Scholar Program and tuition reimbursement. Additionally, each division has funds set aside for staff to pursue certifications, attend conferences, or take advantage of other job-related skills enrichment. For any current employees, please know that your Director is available to help remove any roadblocks you may encounter – we encourage you to bring any concerns to them so they can be addressed in a timely manner.

Pros

Most of the research staff are professional, conscientious people who value great work

Cons

The president is retired on active duty; the operational management - the research staff directors have little to no real authority - the General counsel and finance director have way too much power - the HR director is a political activist with clear double standards for any who do not share her progressive political views - the independent nature of the research is suffering due to lack of mission focus and an un willingness to be objective

IDA leadership and staff remain steadfastly committed to the mission: answering the most challenging U.S. security and science policy questions with objective analysis leveraging extraordinary scientific, technical, and analytic expertise. Staff feedback is important to us as we strive to continually improve. We are concerned and disappointed to hear your thoughts regarding the loyalty to our mission and encourage further dialogue to understand examples and context in an effort to fully address them. We seek to empower all staff to come forward with concerns, and can only work to address them when open conversations take place. For any current employees who may share similar concerns, we urge you to share them with us via one of the many available resources, including but not limited to divisional/directorate leadership and code of conduct reporting (see the IIS). IDA’s uniquely flat structure allows for issues to be addressed quickly and at senior levels within the organization.

Pros

New building near metro stop.

Cons

Sadly, IDA is seeing quite a few of it's best, long term employees leave. More so in some divisions than others. This is due in large part to toxic and inappropriate behaviors on the part of managers themselves. Of course, IDA's policy is to report code of conduct problems to HR...but this is actually a bit of a joke in the hallways at IDA. Experienced employees know this is useless.

We appreciate hearing feedback from all staff. We also understand that no two staff members share the same experience at IDA. Outside of filing a Code of Conduct complaint through IDA’s Office of the General Counsel, there are other ways to bring important topics to the attention of our leadership. If you or a colleague have concerns that have not been addressed, or if you have come to learn new information that has not previously been investigated, you are encouraged to escalate your concerns by speaking with any member of the senior management or executive team at IDA. Please note that while the Office of the General Counsel (and HR) are not in a position to share the details of Code of Conduct investigations, we can assure you that all reported concerns raised are fully investigated and reviewed at the highest levels of the organization. You are welcome to email us at feedback@ida.org with any specific suggestions for improving processes for staff feedback or complaints.
