Pros

Flexible Hours - Most departments offer flex time to employees and exceptions out of the norm are generally granted. Management encourages staff to pursue professional designations and the company sponsors and pays for expenses. Job security is very high, no fear of layoffs here.

Cons

No ability to work from home. Management is very concious of their budget which is reflected in salary, bonus and zero employee incentives/morale boosters. There is little room for growth at ISO. Most people become complacent in their position and lose all interest in their jobs. It also seems there is little motiviation or opportunity to promote and develop A rated employees. Promotions appear to be limited to the "next in line" approach rather than the most qualified person for the job. This has created departments with inept managers, an unhappy staff, and ultimately high turnover. Salaries are not competitive when compared with similar job functions and major insurance companies.

Pros

Hours are very flexible for most departments, and the company provides a lot of support for those that would like to continue their educations. Those in the actuarial field can receive paid study time, and the company provides books, classes, and exam fees. There are other non-actuarial designations for which the company provides support as well.

Cons

Insurance work is not the most exciting thing in the world, and offices can be very quiet most of the time. Growth within the company seems to take a lot of time as well. Insurance seems a bit expensive to me compared to my last company but I don't think it is out of line.

Pros

Stable and profitable, good reputation, valued information provider, staff has a very long tenure, benefits competitive, salaries may be competitive, career growth may be limited depending on management

Cons

Senior management and executive management do not trust employees, no opportunity to work at home, no understanding of morale boosters that cost virtually nothing, excessive expense control at the cost of innovation, no opportunities to do non-profit or volunteer work outside of corporate programs.
