      Improving but with many struggles

      Pros

      Good people, great products, excellent compensation and benefits package, committed to developing employees and having a healthy workforce.

      Cons

      The company will suck the life out of you (but only if you let it!). Continued struggles with cost reduction efforts.

      Good company, but with flawed upper management leadership

      Pros

      Navistar International has a storied history, and great following in the trucking industry. Benefits and pay are very competitive and a majority of it's employees are very dedicated and loyal to the company.

      Cons

      Upper management has made very detrimental leadership decisions in the past decade. The in-cylinder emissions solution was flawed from the start, and the engineering and product development teams in Fort Wayne, Indiana tried to communicate to the Chicago world headquarters that it wasn't working and that the company should switch to the SCR technology that the rest of the industry was using to meet EPA requirements. When Engineering leadership expressed this concern, the CEO and Truck President threatened lower management with dismissal and demanded that their decisions were final and anyone not willing to agree, were not team players.

      Pretty close to the city, high starting salary makes up for a lot of the cons.

      Cons

      Slow work environment, slow upper management, declining business outlook.
