Not a care in the world for their employees. All about bottom line cuts, especially since going public.
Pros
Getting to build relationships and enrich lives, just like in the company slogan, is a rewarding experience that has created many lasting friendships for me with the membership. I have met many people that I am now proud to call friends by working to make sure they have great experiences week in and week out. Additionally, middle and upper management within the individual clubs seem to take an interest in the well being of their employees, but often appear to have their hands tied insofar as making any real changes by corporate.
Cons
Incredibly high turnover rate lately - members are dissatisfied, employees unhappy, and overall, the vibe is unpleasant. Upon a management turnover about a year ago, the corporate office opted to slash everyone's pay, because "hey, who's going to know? All of management is leaving". I'm going to know, because I stayed (though now I wonder why). Employees often work extensive overtime just to make ends meet and, if they sit down to speak with upper management about compensation, are promptly told either to take on more hours or are shown a negative mind-share (member feedback) from sometime in recent history as if it were some sort of valid reason for denying a meager pay raise, ignoring the fact that the negative reviews likely stem from staff being overworked and too concerned about trying to make ends meet to focus on productivity.
