Pros

Traditional public community college, good support for adjuncts via Pearson resources, space to work (large adjunct office) w/computer & printer. Blackboard has good IT support, rooms have decent technology, health benefits available for adjuncts though not underwritten. Few meetings to attend as adjuncts, classes available in a five-county area.

Cons

Currently fewer classes than I'd like so salary is low -- a little more seniority may help. Six class maximum load means up to 140+ students at the beginning of the semester ... you'd better make grading easy on yourself!

Nice people but they pay terribly

Pros

Everyone I've met or worked with at Ivy Tech has been incredibly nice and quite competent at what they do. They have a very positive culture and are student-focused to the extreme. Tech-savvy and growing fast.

Cons

Ivy Tech is growing so fast that they need many, many new staff and instructors; unfortunately, they are not willing to pay them what they are worth on the open market or commit to them in any way. They rely almost exclusively on adjunct instructors, who are very low-paid, and give them a lot of administrative responsibility (if they are even assigned a class) that is not worth the hassle given the low salary. Staff positions likewise are very low-paid, particularly the ones in the academic area, although anything to do with central office, customer or student services are paid OK, not great but OK.
