-Decent quality of product -Long-time veterans (the ones who are left) are extremely knowledgeable -Decent pay -Some customers are friendly and appreciative of you and your work

Cons

-It's a toss up with management. Some are great, some are terrible. -Meat cutters as a whole are looked on with disdain -Not enough manpower to go around and you can be left to struggle sometimes -The bottom line is number one -Its not uncommon to see senior cutter and meat managers transferred excessive distances from their homes, especially when they are close to retirement -Getting hurt on the job happens. But if it happens to you, expect to be put through the ringer and jump through hoops -Equipment is aging, and kept in just good enough shape to pass safety protocols

Long, Boring, and with Incompetent Management

Pros

They pay. It's not much but it is enough if you are attending high school and want some spending cash. Fairly flexible hours are an additional benefit.

Cons

You will deal with an incredible amount of incompetence of thought and action on the part of Store Directors, Assistant Store Directors, and Supervisors. Often they will try to manipulate employees, the good ones as well as the bad ones, and are often degrading. There is very little respect for ability or treatment as an adult (even if you are an adult or older than them). Full-time employees are often a joy to work with and knowledgable about the job but express the same wish for better management.
