Pros

Wages and benefits over the years are very good. If you put in your time and make an effort to improve yourself, you will be rewarded. Employees who are conscientious and motivated will quickly move up in the ranks at the stores. The office atmosphere is professional and demanding. Customer service is a #1 push. If you can't be friendly and helpful with customers, don't bother to apply. This is still one of a very few local companies where you can expect to have a long career in several departments if you do good work on a consistent basis.

Cons

It can be somewhat of an insiders game. It helps a lot if the boss "likes" you. Promotions are a done deal many times even before a position is posted for interviews. You will most likely be hired only as a part-timer. A full-time job may be offered to you if you show that you have potential.

Pros

The best reason to work for Jewel is benefits. They also provide great communication between management and employees. The uniforms are quite tacky though. They main thing to realize is the majority of the people you work with are not college graduates so If you don't have a college degree its a good place to work your way up, because you don't really need a college degree to get ahead in the company.

Cons

the main downside is that your pay gets capped if ur not salary. You alway are limited to the politics of the company. It is dificult to imagine oneself stocking the shelves of a grocery store as a permanent position.

Pros

They have an impressive benefits package. For the most part, they can be very flexible if you need time off for any reason. Unless, of course, this request falls on or near a holiday, but that is understandable because it is a retail job. For the most part, you are compensated for the job that you complete. No ridiculous hours that are uncompensated, even around the holidays. As a salaried associate, there are still opportunities to earn overtime, so there is no fear of being overworked without any sort of compensation. Vacation and time off for full timers are impressive.

Cons

It is a retail job so there are a great deal of nights, weekends, etc. There are also a great deal of 24hr stores so you do find yourself working overnights some times. Management is definitely not much different from a standard part time stocker. Their management trainee program is a bit bogus. There is a cookie cutter timeline and your performance does little to advance or detract from that time frame. They see that you have put your time in and you move on...regardless of job performance which leads to frustration that the underqualified and the solid asset move at the same pace.
