Pros

-Employee loyalty -Employees at the bottom work hard for little pay and benefits and expect more from Jewel-Osco

Cons

-Assistant Director I worked with had little respect for her employees. -Employee morale was terrible -Many employees spoke about their displeasure with the company -Company operates with a skeleton crew with high labor requirements -Benefits have been chopped, 401k benefit is very lackluster. -Company does not offer tuition assistance, only on an exception basis for the Store Director

Pros

I had a good run with the company, secure in the knowlwdge that I had a job, plenty of people to do the job that needed to get done

Cons

They fired all the store directors on the general merchandise side of the store, did not give the asst store directors any more money and basically had them do the jobs that the store directors were doing and the job they were always doing, and cut the work force down, it was a situation for disaster. Many people that were with the company for years were forced to leave . 40 year veterans at the top that were to young to retire quit to go to different comapnies

Pros

I am impressed on how long they keep their employees. The union has prevented firings. Friendships and working together are a plus. Since I was part time, I managed to go to school and the schedule was worked around it. Great benefits.

Cons

Pay is pitiful. Its a grocery chain, so that can be expected. Managers are not trained well. They have this thing where they are unable to fire people, (because of the union) so, if someone not doing well, they still keep. Latest manager would infuriate employees and creating "scenarios" to create a write up. One manager writes people up for not asking a question " Do you have anything under the basket?" Even if we can see the basket and we did not ask the question, that leads to write ups.
