Great co-workers made it enjoyable. There was a real sense of team effort and it's nice when you enjoy their company outside of work.
Cons
Medical benefits were not great. Very small raises and not great opportunities for advancement from within. Upper management out of touch with employees.
Overall, the company offered excellent benefits and a quality work environment (nice offices, convenient locations, etc.). The people were probably the best benefit, since I had the opportunity to work with some very talented technologists who seemed to truely care about the quality of work they performed.
Cons
Despite some stellar exceptions, there were members of senior management who were so far removed from understanding the technical areas they supervisedthat it became an obstacle to success (i.e. enforcing antiquated methodologies or having no understanding or exposure to modern practices and tools).
If your responsibility is to provide technical direction for a large part of the organization, you need to be a technologist.
