      Great company, bad management

      Pros

      Semiconductor equipment company with great products (Gen 5) in a wafer measurement, metrology and inspection. Merger with Lam did not go through but its culture is unique and its better that way. Can do better if products are cheaper but ops cost is high and outsourcing is out of control.

      Cons

      Management is focused on how to sustain the status quo, a lot of politics, lay offs, not a place for a career growth. Competition between middle and top management, nothing new in the semiconductor sector except fierce politics. Nobody cares about engineers and their training and advancements.

      Looking for better opportunities

      Pros

      Great technical challenges. Great engineers / coworkers.

      Cons

      Bad middle management. Looks like middle management, at least in systems, is selected from engineers who are clueless about managing and listening to their reports. We are micromanaged and told to do whatever managers think would promote them. Atrocious IT preventing people from doing their jobs. Tickets are sent to India and nothing gets fixed. Friends in the Valley describe much better experiences. I cannot even access Google at work and IT couldn't fix that.

      Pros

      I work in IT and I can leave early and also work from home without anyone knowing what I'm doing, so that's a big perk

      Cons

      Having to deal with backward and unoriginal thinking and IT staff who have been here for years. Having worked at many companies in the Valley, I find that the management here and to a great degree, the worker bees are absolutely clueless. There's no talent here, with people just sticking around to earn their monthly wage
