Pros

Great opportunity to learn the Vulcan software with some of the best users around the world. Get to network with Vulcan clients. Get to live in Denver. Get to work with great staff (for the most part) in a relaxed work atmosphere. Some opportunities to work with other Maptek software/hardware (iSite scanner or MineSuite). If business is good, quarterly and annual bonuses can be rewarding.

Cons

Turnover is petty high, most engineers/geologist typically work with Maptek for 2 years before they move on. Company likes to hire graduates fresh from college, and shows little interest in keeping employees longer than 2 years. There are limited opportunities for career advancement. Who-you-know atmosphere, meaning those who are closer friends with management get better choices of work assignments. Management not always upfront with new policies, and not known for their honesty. Travel can also be overwhelming, and you are expected to travel weekends with little compensation.

Pros

Good people to work with. Good benefits. Interesting product. Good industry niche. Profitable. Chance to use your skills. For mining engineers, possibly better than living in small mining town. For tech support, nice offices. Opportunity to work on a variety of project at various sites.

Cons

Travel. Working with overseas offices. Legacy code. Management not focused on core product. Management is looking years down the road while staff size is being cut or quitting. Limited resources for completing projects. Marketing department is not focused on helping clients. Maptek has recently gone from a small company feel to a big company. New HR director and marketing department. Company has trouble cooperating between the various offices. People manipulate project selection system to get their projects prioritized. There are essentially 4 separate development offices.
