Pros

Though social welfare is a hard, often thankless job, KVC does a great job of making their employees feel like they are making an impact, keeping an upbeat and team-oriented environment, and offering ongoing education as needed. Pros: free CEUs/training, flexibility with scheduling, direct line of supervision (knowing who to contact), a large team to rely on, benefits with great salary pay schedule, and access to fleet cars/computers/work phones/etc.

Cons

It can be difficult to balance work and personal life due to high intensity caseloads, and personal choice in time management. Additionally, being on-call (depending on position) can be exhausting.

Pros

I have worked for KVC for 8 years and previous to KVC I worked for both TFI and DCCCA (State foster care agencies). KVC is different because their leaders are taking a therapeutic approach to serving children and their families. Their emphasis is on healing and connection rather than "rescuing" or "punitive" measures to noncompliance. I stay at KVC because I believe in the mission, I see our values in our leadership. I have been extremely lucky to have great leadership in the positions I have held. I have noticed that not all leaders at KVC have the same style, so I have had experiences with other staff who didn't have the same experiences as I have. Another reason I stay at KVC is because I thrive here. I get bored easily and always need something new to keep me engaged. I have been able to experience so many amazing programs, projects and work committees. I always get the CEU's I need for licensure because there are always trainings available. Our pay is not horrible, although I always feel like our frontline staff deserve more. Flexible schedule, decent pay, therapeutic approach to foster care, Diversity Equity and Inclusion Council, upward mobility available, diverse programming, encourage higher education, yearly bonus' based on years of service, PSLF eligible employer

Cons

Not all the leadership is ready or should be in leadership. Frontline staff sometimes work late into the evening and weekends. On-call can be a pain. Our board, executive leadership, subsidiary leadership and frontline staff do not adequately represent diversity (DEI councils have begun and are actively working on this)

Pros

I really enjoy my job at KVC. It is evident that the other staff truly care about helping children and families. I also really love the flexibility of our department.

Cons

Sometimes our job can be very rewarding and other times it can be very emotional. The best you can do it try to separate work from home and hope the next day is better.
