Pros

I met some life long friends working in Admissions. My supervisors and director were awesome people. They are the reason I stayed as long as I did. This place deserves 0 stars but I gave it one just because of the people I work with.

Cons

EVERYTHING. You will be overworked, and extremely underpaid. There is no room for growth in this company. Permanency (esp. JOCO) and CPA are a joke and blame admissions for everything. The retention rate is embarrassing because of the pay. You will barely make above the poverty line. Most people either have a 2nd job or work lots of OT to keep their head above water. Raises are a joke (literally $.10/yr). Maybe instead of the CEO traveling to Singapore, and spending money a building they don't need (new attachment to the corp office), they could give that money to their employees. This company doesn't care about it's employees at all. The new motto should be #donorsmatter, not #peoplematter.

Pros

Lots of people with good intentions, met some people I really admire working with children. Supervisors open to my observations/concerns. Flexible hours, could work as many hours as I needed/wanted. Good place to "get your feet wet" if you haven't worked with SED kids or those with serious behavioral issues.

Cons

Pay did not commensurate with my education. (master's level) I was paid as much as someone with a bachelor's. Not enough education/training on mental health. Although a 'hands-off' approach to discipline was expected, I saw a lot of people using unethical methods of discipline with the children. It seems that staff was too eager to 'take down' an out of control child often making the situation worse and causing even more trauma to the child. Lots of mixed messages on how to do things. Not enough support for using the computer program to document patient behaviors. ALOT of mean girl clicks in staff making it hard to do my job. Favoritism by some supervisors. I worked both hospital and residential and found this to be true across the board. Organization poor. Relationship between nursing staff and BHC/BHT's strained. While I worked there several male supervisors were fired for inappropriate sexual behavior with clients and staff. Working at KVC was a lot of times like working at a huge high school! Professionalism poor. Supervisors did nothing to get rid of staff who were there for socializing instead of working with at risk kids.

Pros

KVC offers a great opportunity for new graduates to get some interesting and insightful experience.

Cons

KVC has little "true" care about "people matter" there is a strong mean girls society within the organization and anyone who will not "fall in party line" is terminated or pushed out. They do not train their employees to do their job, they throw them to the wolves and then hold it against the employee as an example to lower performance and inability to complete required tasks. So in turn the employee is punished by a company system failure. In 12 months my department had 19 people (of 22) come and go, biggest complaint, no training lack of leaderships real and just expectations. Immediate supervisor did all they could to protect others in the department but it was not enough she fell on the sword was out spoken and resigned, then she was pushed out and threatened that she would be fired if she didn't leave sooner than her resignation. Several unethical practices witnessed on several levels. If your an individual are or looking to be licensed steer clear as you will find yourself within if not slightly after 12 months wanting out. You may also do unethical things that your told won't come back to you.
