Challenging environment and unsustainable expectations

Pros

There may be opportunities for growth within Kaplan, as the company operates multiple schools across the UK and internal transfers are possible. The experience could also be more positive for those who are in favour with senior management.

Cons

Unfortunately, employee wellbeing does not appear to be a priority for the current management, whose focus appears to be on meeting financial targets linked to their own bonuses. Employees are frequently expected to work significant overtime hours without compensation. While time off in lieu is promised, the workload often makes it impossible to take this leave. Staff turnover in my role was extremely high, with many people leaving within weeks or months of joining, which speaks to the unsustainable demands of the job. Compensation is not competitive for the responsibilities required - £26k per year in 2024 is not a competitive salary for this job, particularly in a city as expensive as Cambridge.
