Not a good company.

Pros

The students are usually great, and the product (courses) are actually quite good and in some respects easy to deliver (very scripted)

Cons

Disorganized. Buggy technology. No benefits and you don't really get paid hourly what it seems you will, because you only get paid well for teaching and there are a lot of hours outside of teaching. I worked there for years with no benefits and no path to make a career of it, although I did my job well and expressed interest in doing so. Your pay rate is based on student feedback with impossibly high standards and very little support to figure out how to get better feedback. Then if for some reason your ratings slip, you get a demotion. Everything is very convenient for the management.

Pros

Intellectually challenging and very fun Flexible scheduling-- fantastic for undergraduate & graduate students Opportunities to improve teaching and communication skills Compensated for time in and out of the classroom-- preparing lessons, corresponding with students, etc. Great products-- I really believe in the GRE and LSAT classes I teach I currently have a great manager

Cons

My former manager was not a good leader Though you are compensated for time outside the classroom, it's only at $8/hr Little communication with coworkers Only way to earn pay increases is through a very rigorous student rating system You can even lose pay raises if your student rating drops I don't feel appreciated
