Pros

Flexible hours that work well with having a different full-time job (mostly nights and weekends), a great system for raises based on students' ratings, a good system for moving people with good student ratings up to teacher trainers, etc., always receiving posts about full-time management jobs within Kaplan

Cons

It can sometimes be difficult to get enough hours if you only teach one test, the raises are based on how many students rate you as "excellent" while "good" does not count for anything

Pros

You are likely to make lots of smart friends working for Kaplan. Teaching courses is exciting and a lot of fun.

Cons

Teaching a lot of courses can be a little at times. For example, you may be asked to cover for other teachers at the last minute

Pros

Good hours and pay rate for a part time or supplemental gig. Really easy once you memorize the material, and they're always trying to get you to learn new tests. The training is compensated.

Cons

The corporate structure is a little oppressive: having to navigate the bureaucracy as well as represent the myriad interests. For instance, placing the onus of explaining the various guarantees and money-back claims on the tutor is a bit ridiculous. Also, the offers for gigs come at the last minute, with almost no time to prepare. And in the case of NYC's market, the jobs are often far off the beaten path and mileage reimbursement is only paid for trips over a certain amount of miles...so you are often asked to travel two to three hours roundtrip for a two hour job.
