Kaplan for experience; not for job satisfaction or pay

Best reasons were work experience. Valuable teaching and legislative learning possible. Learned quite a bit about how much more important it was to manage numbers than students. Quite often Kaplan management sent from corporate to dictate than to lead or advise

Cons

Management often insensitive about employee personal life. Salary not commensurate with experience or work desired. Personal opinion is that in order to pay an employee as a "salaried" employee the salary must exceed 40K/yr. Kaplan limited our salary but still expected us to work in excess of 50hrs weekly planning and performing tasks that required more hours or more people.

Pros

Working at Kaplan has the obvious benefits of interacting with people from varied walks of life in a relatively laid back environment. Teaching is hard work and working at Kaplan is just that. If you are a people person who enjoys problem solving, then Kaplan keeps things fresh with admission of new students and the ability to learn from each others' perspectives. I like that Kaplan has regular hours, so you are not working at all hours of the day. Your schedule is set and you decide how much preparation time you will put into your pre-office/school day. It is what you put into it.

Cons

The staff can be cliquey.

It might be a good place for gaining skills and work experience.

Cons

It is very much a sales environment, even though it is an educational institution. This lends itself to a high pressure environment where I see more emphasis placed on the sale itself, rather than the pursuit of educational excellence.
