A Solid Opportunity Overall

Pros

Pay is high, and travel is factored into hourly wages. Great support system, from faculty managers to mentors. Rewarding work if you enjoy directly assisting students. Student support/communication time is compensated, which is great as assisting students often requires research/reaching out to management for help, and writing a detailed response. Opportunities to develop as a teacher, Vanguard retirement plans, and flexible hours (can take on one or multiple classes, only proctor, only tutor, etc.). Training is comprehensive but largely consists of videos, so the first classroom experience can be awkward until you get some hands-on experience.

Cons

Prep is time-consuming and prep resources change regularly. The changes are improvements in my estimation, but lessons must be reworked to fit the new teacher versions. Little freedom in teaching/must stick to Kaplan methods, which can feel restrictive. Unlikely to have physical meetings with anyone, so mentoring, teacher development, etc. is conducted virtually. Time management is crucial as you must cover several extensive modules per class session, and you are expected to be available to students via email outside of class time. Your opinion of standardized testing might color your overall impression of the company. Onboarding process took weeks and I had to run around to find a notary who would notarize my I-9 for virtual employees (many places do not do this anymore).
