Pros

unlimited overtime and some cool people

Cons

high-school vibe. You got 50 year olds (I assume) trying to live it up like it’s high school …. no career opportunities and careless/reckless energy all around. stay to yourself is the best advice to last here. most people will try to suck you into drama (shockingly the elders)

Pros

In departments other than mine, there are actually some really nice people that are also trapped in this 5 level of hell.

Cons

Horrible upper management that hire equally horrible middle management. By horrible I mean… completely out of touch with modern technology, modern workplace culture, modern ways of delivering IT solutions, obsolete technology is the norm and they are so clueless they don’t even realize they are living 20 years in the past. The management may literally have no soul — certainly has no care whatsoever for their employees. You don’t get the tools you need to do your job. Nothing you do is appreciated or valued. They don’t feel an employee is really contributing unless they work over 58 hours a week every single week. The PTO allowance is not to normal standards. The pay is also significantly lower than the average. The people who lie and do things that are unethical are the ones that get promoted. This IT department is a complete joke. They lack employees with the skills and knowledge to run an organization this size — anyone with even average skills doesn’t stay here (because this is the worst place anyone could work in IT and the compensation and hours are horrible) so they have no experienced talent. They want you you be on-call and don’t want to pay on-call pay. If you are a minority, just don’t even bother — if by chance you are hired to help their minority employee numbers, they will treat you terribly, to the point you will leave. The amount of money that is wasted due to incompetence is huge, but try to get funding for anything that costs more than a paper clip and the answer will be no. The leadership at the top operates using intimidation and fear. There are a lot of people working here that have not ever worked for another company. They have been here for 30 years and they hate it, but don’t have the tech skills to be successful anywhere else. The best thing they can say for the company is ‘I’ve seen it worse than this in the past’ and I’ve only got 5 more years till I can retire. They have underfunded their IT solutions for so long that they 20 year veteran employees have started saying ‘it is about to crash and burn big time, but no one in management will listen.’ As soon as I find any other viable job I will be out of here!!! Thank god the tech job desert of 2 years ago is passing!!!!!!!! I honestly do not have the words to fully explain how much you should avoid taking a salaried role at this company.
