Pros

My pay is good , I'm a highschool dropout and they didn't really look at my resume so much as they looked at me as a competent individual. The majority of the people I work with, I love to work with. They're really great. I was hired as a receptionist and quickly given a higher position (even though I am still getting paid as a receptionist and have gotten no training for my new position). The people who work for Kindred /outside of my facility/ all seem like great, helpful people.

Cons

People in charge so scared of going over budget I can't make orders the last week of the month practically. There are never enough supplies in the building for our residents because of this. When I am not told to order things and it is questioned, those telling me not to order deny this and are believed, of course. Everything that happens is very hush-hush. There is a serious lack of communication and a serious disconnect between the real workers and the higher-up. One person is told this while another is told that, et cetera. People are coming and going all the time, every day. Half of the employees here can't take the constant changes and the sneaky meetings and all of the nonsense that comes with a for-profit organisation. I am doing two jobs that I wasn't given more than a day's training to learn how to do, and even though I've totally turned around the Central Supply system, scored an Excellent in my section for our internal audit, I am STILL receiving my hired wage (I was hired as a Receptionist, and I do 2+ jobs now where I am still being paid to answer phones). The management is only looking out for themselves. Not the residents, not the people who make this place work, but themselves. I hate coming to work every day.

Pros

They work collaboratively with health research and development companies. Innovative and creative in approaches to patient care. Ahead of the pack.

Cons

Individual centers have little if any autonomy. Strong corporate culture that permeates every aspect of services at the local level.

Pros

Most of my peers are very competent, skilled nurses.

Cons

Kindred could truly care less about patients. I have personally heard senior mgmt. talk about keeping patients in house despite their need to be hospitalized-because they wanted to milk their medicare. My particular facility is run by the most incompetent people I've ever had the displeasure of working with. The families with money run the facility and the patients with no one to advocate are totally mistreated. The facility is understaffed.
