Pros

Pay for overtime is common *Certain engineers* are extraordinary at what they do, and if you get the opportunity to work with them, you will greatly benefit from their expertise. Flexibility to work from home when needed You’ll frequently come to work that day expecting to work on a certain project and end up on something totally different. This can be good and bad. Starting hours are typically flexible, which is a really nice perk. Nobody is making sure you’re in your seat at a certain time. Most employees are surprisingly responsive and friendly.

Cons

They will put junior engineers in way over their head with customer-facing integration roles just to save money on labor and when it blows up in their face tell the engineer "don't feel bad for being average". If you're new and naive, they will motivate you to work extremely hard with the prospect of a raise, and when their poorly planned projects cave-in on themselves, they'll forget all the hard work you did. Yearly raises are typically less than the cost of living Work/life balance is mediocre at best. Inadequate parking. It’s always seemingly a few steps away from massive failure. If you want a snack, there's a full price vending machine.

Pros

Nice 9/80 schedule Most managers are good Lots of neat technology Neat opportunities exist if you pursue and push them

Cons

Lots of grey-ethical decisions HR is poor at their job Hires anyone to fill positions and then doesn't remove people from positions; resulting in people leaving Overworks employees. Too competitive of an environment, making it very difficult for women trying to balance life and work to succeed. Not uncommon for employees to work long hours and high tense culture

Pros

Most people are very pleasant to work with. The work has always been interesting.

Cons

The HR department has much to be desired. They with let an employee that bullies, threatens physical violence, and intimidates other employees off with a slap on the hand, but if you use a "curse" word like CRAP, you can get written up. Favoritism runs rampant and there are different rules for different people. Disrespectful foreign language speakers will curse you out in their native language and you will get into trouble for complaining about it.
