Working at LA Family Housing

Pros

It has been my experience that management at LA Family Housing is fair and understanding. It makes sense for me when I hear people talk about receiving discipline, when clearly they deserved it. They fail to realize (or they refuse to accept) that their behavior and/or performance impacts other employees. When I complained about a concern I had, it was addressed immediately, which was a relief and I was happy that it was resolved rather quickly. I felt genuine care from management for me as a person. LAFH is a well known organization and having held employment at LAFH is viewed as a plus with other organizations. LAFH has a good reputation amongst other nonprofit homeless service providers and I'm glad to be part of this agency. Schedule flexibility is available and supervisors generally approve your requests. 9/80 schedule is a plus, especially because I enjoy taking an extra day off every two weeks. 11 Paid Observed Holidays, AND extra Paid Time Off during the Christmas/New Year holidays. Fun Employee Events, Employee Appreciation Program and free snacks available to staff. Opportunities to seek licensure for LSCW paid by LA Family Housing if you meet their requirements. Awesome co-workers and great comradery. Rewarding to know that you are making a positive impact in the lives of others who have or are experiencing homelessness! In reading other reviews, I didn't quite agree with most, because I feel they come from employees who don't take pride in their work or who don't really care for the work they do. I can see how someone would leave a bad review if they weren't following policy and got in trouble or if they were just not cut out for this type of work, because I feel it's the same type of work with other nonprofit homeless service providers. It is my experience that policies are pretty fair and straight forward, it doesn't take a genius to understand and follow them.

Cons

High workloads, there doesn't seem to be sufficient time during the day to get your work done. Space shortages-there isn't sufficient space for all staff, this is with regards to office space and parking. Hopefully with the new campus opening, this will change. Agency is going through a lot of change right now and although management makes an effort to keep us informed, it's a bit difficult to keep up with all the changes.

Pros

Great teams who support one another. It great to help partcipants to grow. Clinical supervision from DMH, you can gain clinical assistance. Hours are great. Creative case management.

Cons

Lack of training, management doesn't check files, does not train on the requirements for grants. Managemeny is using fear to make people work harder. Writing up people for not accurate mileage but the company is too cheap to use a concur program. Directors do not care about frontline staff they care about their image to CEO and other directors. CEO cares about her image to funders not the actual productivity of people being housed and remain in housing on the individual side. Supervisors do not support staff they just hear but do not assist. It's all ego rubbing in management. Staff meetings with CEO are false hope. The meetings is like going to a cult meeting. The meetings are used to make management feel good and they act as if there are cameras in the room. It is not genuine, that's why no one wanted to do a homewalk to represent LAFH.
