Decent first career

Pros

The faculty are very collegial and work hard to move the school forward.

Cons

The moral is low. The lack of salary increases over the last 4-5 years causes salary compression. High turnover rate makes it hard to collaborate with others.

Life at LSU

Pros

Every department varies. Flexibility and benefits are good. Working on a beautiful campus also is nice to take a break and walk around.

Cons

Haven't has a raise in 5 years. Management is not always helpful in recognizing if you're doing a great job. They only recognize the people not doing their job. Lots of RED TAPE and budget difficulties. Also, there's always office politics and drama. No way to move up the ladder. Massive budget cuts thanks to Governor Bobby Jindal which leads to fear of losing your job at least twice a year. Thanks!

Pros

You spend your day surrounded by smart faculty members, great education opportunities. After one year of fulltime employment you can apply for tuition exception and continue your degree.

Cons

It is an state agency so forget about salary increases unless you are in the high ranks. Parking can be expensive if you decide to park close to your office building.
