Hopelessly uncaring and outdated culture

Pros

You can get a job right out of college, but it might negatively taint your view of the "real" working world for the rest of your career. They hire college grads because they assume they are young, green, gullible, eager to work for free, and do whatever they want them to do. While hiring mostly new graduates, they have to discriminate against people with experience.

Cons

This company's management structure is hopelessly outdated and unconcerned with their employees welfare. You have to bow-down to your superiors in blind faith because they want to control every aspect of your life. If you don't adhere to the culture, you will be destroyed or tortured until you leave in disgrace. You will be a shining example to others who remain... conform or be destroyed. This megalomaniac mentality starts at the very top of the company and flows down through every office and position. From the day you begin interviewing with this company, it is painfully clear they do not know what they are doing. If you have any previous work experience prior to interviewing with them, they will probe you about the companies you've worked for, but not so much you. They want to know how other companies are managed and operated because Labatt does not know how to run their company. Their interview process can take up to two weeks and is chocked full of invasive, irrelevant, and rude interrogatories. You will also have to answer a long series of psychological profiling questions which appear to be a junior high student's attempt at "head" games.

Pros

The pay is good. If you do a good job, you will be noticed. Lots of cool, fun, intelligent people. My boss is fair. Very stable company. Every year we grow in sales and hire more employees than quit.

Cons

The general tone (not every single detail) of first 3 reviews are is accurate. The culture is very uptight and out-of-touch with modern times. The dress code is long-sleeve white shirts and ties for guys. Certain people in power can be unnecessarily condescending and rude, which adds to the feeling that we are viewed as children. To be fair, most managers (especially the CEO) are nice and approachable. Employee turnover is high, especially considering the state of the economy. Vacation & holidays is a joke. The first year, we get 5 holidays and 0 vacation. We max out at 5 holidays and 15 vacation days during our 11th year. It takes TEN YEARS to reach a max of only 20 days. Everyone I know who works an 8-5 job outside Labatt reached or exceeded that during their first year or two. This policy leaves people feeling burnt out and increases the negative attitude that puts a damper on everything else. Most importantly, it feels like no one listens to or cares about our opinions. I've heard many people say they've voiced concerns to management only to be told things like "you're not the first person to complain but we're not going to do anything about it," "we don't see a problem," "that's not the real issue" and "you should focus on X instead of being so negative."

Pros

-Pay is good -Benefits are decent (except holidays and vacation) -No Weekend work -Weekly pay -CEO seems to be nice to people

Cons

-Nepotistic -We never complete projects -Extreme tension between executives and staff -No follow thru on promises -Very rigid work environment (seems like Big Brother) -COO is very difficult to work with -No career growth plans or structure -Clique based -High turnover -Environment is toxic and is only built for the older generation and family members -No humility among management and helping their staffs’ growth -Very difficult to understand how to move up when it seems that friendships mean more than results, or sometimes “sucking up” more We have lost some beloved and talented colleagues over the last 6 months and morale is very low. There is more people looking to find a path out than ever. I am very disappointed in the attitude of the management how they treat people that devote their time and talent. There is no trust.
