      Pros

      Smartest people in their fields are hired, some stay entire career, and have opportunity for international reputation building. Your collaborators will be amazing.

      Cons

      "Soft money" funding means everyone is scrambling for funding support for their research programs. People who are not number one or who are not lucky may not be able to contribute all that could be available from them.

      Pros

      Very generous benefits, including the UC retirement plan. The environment and culture are also great. A lot of attention to safety. The level of the research is generally high.

      Cons

      There is no daycare on site. Considering the size of the lab it would be a valid addition to the facility. Funding issues can put a lot of pressure on the staff.

      Nothing was really wrong. Just a lot of paperwork to go through to get hired though.
