Direction Seriously Lacking in Enterprise Group

Pros

Lenovo is an aggressive company that has proven they can sell a lot of product. If they can do with Enterprise Group what they did with PC Group ten years ago, then they will easily take the #1 spot in server sales.

Cons

Following the transfer of Enterprise Group from IBM to Lenovo there has been a horrible lack of unified direction from management. We've all been told to stop thinking and acting as we had been at IBM but we've been given no good guidance or role models on how to think and act now. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line managers don't appear to be receiving guidance either, as they often contradict each other and the message from YY and other company leaders. We've been through heavy downsizing and reorganization which, coupled with the lack of strong direction, is creating an environment of uncertainty and low morale.

Both good and bad

Pros

Excellent salary and time off. Good choices for benefit plans, and nice amenities on the campus sites. Good R&D and diversification of product and service makes them very stable in the market.

Cons

Global teams means that you work all the time to accommodate Asia time zone as well as your own. Managers do attempt to be flexible but reality intervenes. The more functions that are moved to China means that loss of knowledge can get to a critical point quickly, resulting in stress and frustration to meet deadlines. Flat management structure means that teams are empowered, but there is little opportunity for promotion.

Pros

Nice people. Good friends. Commissions were great a few years ago... Easy to make six figures as an inside rep at that time.

Cons

Commission structure changes constantly and for the worse, year by year. Micro-management. Very open workplace means you will constantly get sick. Managers use their influence to try to sell you "home party" clothes and jewelry. The company only hires brand new college grads now and as a result much less talent. Senior leadership is all men, no diversity.

Thanks for your feedback. I would recommend that you mention your specific concerns to HR so we can address them appropriately...as some of what you mention is not a common issue. You have some good suggestions regarding compensation and flexibility. We do want to have solid career paths for both experienced employees as well as those that have less experience. Our interest is that we can provide a great work environment for all of our employees. Your input was helpful. Thanks!
