Great IT Opportunities

Pros

Fantastic benefits from day one. Generous PTO plan. .Community focused- employees allowed time off to volunteer, some departments offer more freedoms than others in terms of telecommuting and flexible work schedules. Best career opportunities are in Engineering, Sales and Management. Global expansion.

Cons

Limited advancement opportunities - must be part of the clique in order to move around internally, many jobs usually go to external candidates, Some processes are truly redundant and unjustifiable and the rush to get software and system upgrades often result in frustrations for end users and technicians alike. Dismal pay increases that are usually eaten up by the yearly increase in medical benefits unless you are in Sales or Management in which case raises and bonuses are frequent.

Yearly restructuring.

Pros

Good benefits package. Online career-related education available and encouraged. Professional environment. Several remote positions available. Many good and talented coworkers.

Cons

Mid-level management changes frequently. Numerous mergers acquisitions and divestitures. Every year, there is some sort of restructuring. Some years, even when profits are good, departments are decimated through layoffs. The trend is outsourcing more and more positions.

Pros

Exposure to large customers, experience with enterprise accounts at a junior level, and location.

Cons

Poor pay (REALLY bad); the company was adept at paying folks the lowest amount possible. Even when promoted internally, they set rigid restrictions on how much of a compensation change someone could receive. To put this in perspective, I went from a call center to being a Premier Support Technical Account Manager and received less than a 5% raise. The management is completely out of touch with employees. They expect you to be on call, work overtime, work abnormal hours ect, but offer no incentives or even a roadmap for career progression. This, combined with low pay resulted in an endemic of low moral and motivation during my time with LexisNexis. From about the second week at this company, you become aware that you will have to leave the company to further your career. They offer no means of expanding your career at a junior level, while it is abundantly clear upper management is generously compensated.
