Pros

I made lifetime friends here. I grew a lot as an individual leader and professional. There are good things happening at LC and you see a lot of life change.

Cons

There is no work life balance. You will feel guilty when you take vacation and be questioned about what you ‘really did’. You will work 6 days a week and likely 60+ hours a week. Well beyond on specific weeks. If you cannot meet metrics weekly it is your problem. They do not care why your volunteers were out just that you couldn’t influence them to pick serving over anything else. Tears = weakness and mean that you can’t receive feedback. Feedback includes valuable feedback that is useful and rude personal opinions from your co-workers. The rules do not apply to everyone. Certain people/groups have a different set of rules and do not get written up or verbal warnings for anything they do. It is clear who organization favorites are. Do not expect to hear from anyone once you’ve left. There is no post employment care. I had multiple friends given ‘feedback’ about their weight.

Life.Church Response

Thank you for your feedback! You’re right: The work we’re called to do is demanding! We believe it’s the most important work we can do here on Earth. To do that work, it’s crucial to steward our time, energy, and resources well, and we encourage our staff members to do that in a variety of ways to avoid burnout. We do rely heavily on volunteers to help push our mission forward because we know a church is not a building. We are the church and we know the local church is the hope of the world. There is nothing better than serving God with people you love. We do track numbers because we know every number has a name, every name has a story, and every story matters to God. We provide very competitive benefits, and we offer a wide variety of learning opportunities to help team members make the most of what God has given them. We’re sorry your experience working here wasn’t as excellent as it could have been. If you have more specific ways we could get better at promoting a better work-life balance, we’d love to hear from you! Please shoot us an email at recruitment@life.church.

Pros

The people here are all about development. This means personal, professional, spiritual. There is ALWAYS an opportunity for growth. Whatever it is, ask and you will get the chance. Senior leadership is fantastic. Pastor Sam is so funny, but also very inspiring to listen to. Same with Pastor Hurley. These gentlemen are open, honest, and secure in heir faith. You can have a sense of humor and be a Christ follower! You will have fun.

Cons

It depends who you know. The internship program is not that great as far as the director and team leader goes. They act like feedback is this big thing, but they aren't very transparent. You think you're doing pretty good, then learn out of nowhere that you aren't. Techmire is very judgemental and harsh. If you're not cool with him, you're not going anywhere. Theh want you for tell them where you want to be, so they can tell you that's not a good fit. Coleman is hilarious. It does seem though that he is more about who is cool enough to work there. Being an introvert won't get you far with him. You need to be relevant. It's not about how spiritual you are, as there are a lot of really mean spirited people who work here, but more about how much you fit the Lifechurch mold. So if you're not a hipster, don't apply. HR is pretty tough. There is one very nice person there who is very outgoing, but there is also a lot of gossip and drama. If you go to HR, a grudge will be held against you for years to come.

Pros

Leadership culture is healthy and encouraging. Our vision is consistent but how we accomplish our vision is ever changing. Christ focused organization with highly talented staff.

Cons

Being on staff is very demanding. You have to be able to function well in a high stress role. Willingness to work weekends or nights on a regular basis.
