Pros

Strong involvement in the ML open source community with PyTorch Lightning and collaborations with big tech giants and startups.

Cons

There is confusion about the roadmap within the product team and uncertainty among the team about what's going to happen. Not a huge fan of the founder and his way of going about things.

Great tech company

Pros

Solving hard problems around infrastructure and machine learning. Tech is great. Good local dev experience, great e2e testing framework which makes your life easy. Over the last 2 years the company went through a big transformation in management, business processes and tech stack.

Cons

Like in many AI startups, it's hard to find direction that is working 100% of the time. One year the trend is training large models, next year it's finetuning, then RAG/LLMs, etc.

Working at Lightning AI was frustrating because executive leadership often lacked clear direction and consistency. Priorities changed frequently, communication from the top felt disconnected from operational reality, and strategic decisions created unnecessary instability for teams trying to execute. The company has talented engineers and strong technical potential, but poor leadership made it difficult to maintain confidence in the long-term vision.
